A new Sci Fi short film from Manchester-based filmmakers featuring Sixth Doctor Colin Baker is set to make its debut at the Supernova International Film Festival in late May.
Colin Baker – Doctor Who’s sixth incarnation – returns to the Sci Fi genre in Last Man on Earth – a 15-min pre-apocalypse short film set in Manchester.
“Every now and again a little nugget arrives in my mailbox and the writing intrigued and excited me,” says Baker who plays virologist Professor James Friedkin who recruits his protege to a corporate biotech to work on a cure for cancer.
“Colin was a pleasure to work with. He brought so much to the story and to the character of Friedkin,“ says Director Darren Langlands.
The short was crowdfunded last year on Indiegogo and raised over £10,000. Contributors also joined the cast and are featured in the film. It is a co-production between Alt Angle Films, Jack the Lad Films and Elby Rose Productions.
“Manchester is such an exciting and vibrant place to be for indie filmmaking at the moment,” says Langlands. “It’s been a long journey and to debut at a terrific up and coming genre festival in our home city is a real honour,” he says.
Supernova International Film Festival takes place from 28-30 May at Odeon Printworks in Manchester. More details on the lineup and tickets can be found at www.supernovafilmfest.com. To find out more about the film visit facebook.com/lastmanonearthshortfilm
