Last Man on Earth wins award

Very pleased to announce our Sci-Fi short film Last Man on Earth featuring Sixth Doctor Colin Baker has won Best Sci-Fi at Droids and Dragons Sci-Fi & Fantasy Film Festival in Canada.

“So pleased for our cast and crew to be recognised by winning this award,” says Director Darren Langlands. “Just being officially selected for anything is a real honour. You never expect to win an award,” he says.

The short is still on its festival run. It has screened as an official selection at Starburst International Film Festival (UK), Medway Visions (UK), Nightpiece Film Festival (UK) as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Celludroid (South Africa), Indiana Short Film Festival (USA) and Grand Rapids Comicon Film Festival (USA). This follows it’s premiere at Supernova International film Festival in May.

The films stars Colin Baker – Doctor Who’s sixth incarnation – who returns to the Sci-Fi genre in the 15-min pre-apocalypse short film set in Manchester.

“Every now and again a little nugget arrives in my mailbox and the writing intrigued and excited me,” says Baker who plays virologist Professor James Friedkin who recruits his protege to a corporate biotech to work on a cure for cancer.

“Colin was a pleasure to work with. He brought so much to the story and to the character of Friedkin,“ says Director Darren Langlands.

The short was crowdfunded last year on Indiegogo and raised over £10,000. Contributors also joined the cast and are featured in the film. It is a co-production between Alt Angle Films, Jack the Lad Films and Elby Rose Productions.
