One in a Million screens in 2015

AltAngleFilms is proud to announce that our comedy short One in a Million has been officially selected to compete at a number of international film festivals in 2015 including the 60 Seconds or Less Video Festival in the USA, the One Minute Film and Video Festival in Switzerland, the 23rd Croatian One Minute Film Festival in Croatia and at XpoNorth in Scotland.

This follows on from recent screenings at the NowOrNever International Film Festival in Spain and online as part of Top Shorts Film Festival.

Weighing in at a trim 2 and a half minutes (and a one minute edit also), the short comedy focuses on the hapless everyman character of Terry as he indulges his Saturday night ritual of watching the UK lottery draw programme. He’s been playing it for years and won nothing but could tonight be the night his numbers finally come up?

The short was produced for the 2013 Virgin Media Shorts competition and has screened at several UK film events including the Re:Vault Comedy Den in London. Aint It Cool said of the film in their Dec 2013 review: “Congrats to Director Darren Langlands on filling two minutes with pure enjoyment.”

“The idea came to me while watching the Lotto draw one night. I thought to myself, what would it be like to actually sit there and see your numbers come up, ” says writer and director Darren Langlands.

It stars experienced Manchester-based actor John Draycott (Emmerdale, Hollyoaks, Accused) as Terry and London-based actor Hayley Allerton as the TV presenter.

“We have our Casting Agent, Makeup Artist and Producer Nicole Gaskell to thank for her intuitive casting of both John and Hayley. They gave us so much great comedic material and were both true professionals. They’ve each helped take the film to a new level,” he added.

“When I read the script it was almost an instinctive decision to pick Hayley and John even though I hadn’t seen either of them in a while, I could just see them in the roles. And they did such a great job, each bringing their own flavour to the part,” says Producer Nicole Gaskell.

The short was produced in collaboration with Amber Tint Innovation’s Aatif Ati Zafar (who shot the film). The music and sound was fashioned by composer and sound wizard Robert J. Baldwin. It features 3d modelling from animator Ryan Shaw. Gaffer supreme and stunt co-ordinator T.H. Griffiths also pitched in alongside editor Neil Bruce.
