Written and Directed by Darren Langlands, the film tells the story of a little girl who confronts her parents on the truth about Santa early one Christmas morning.

“The festival received a record number of entries this year so to be selected is a massive achievement. I’m so proud of everyone involved in making the film and especially for Claudia who plays our lead. She’s easily one of most professional actors I’ve ever worked with and she’s just terrific in our film,” says Langlands.

The film was produced specifically for the Virgin Media Shorts competition and is the debut film role for seven-year-old actress Claudia Jean Lewis.

“I really liked the story of the Santa Lie and I had fun playing the part of Amy. I was really happy to be in this film. My favourite part of the Santa Lie is what happens at the end,” says Claudia.

The film also stars experienced actors Nicole Gaskell (who also cast and produced), Jonny Black and Jack Pybus.

“I was very pleased to be part of this film as first time Producer. Darren and the rest of cast/crew made the journey very smooth & enjoyable for me. Over the moon to discover that it has made the final selection at AKFF, what wonderful news to receive on my birthday!” says Producer Nicole Gaskell.

The project is inspired both by the late filmmaker John Hughes (Home alone, Uncle Buck) and the Director’s five-year-old daughter.

“I wanted to make something that she could watch and enjoy. Lying about Santa is something that many parents can identify with and hopefully this strikes a chord with them,” Langlands says.

Crew on The Santa Lie includes Aatif Ati Zafar (Director of Photography), Martin Colclough (Sound Recordist, Sound Mixer and Composer), Kenneth James (Colourist), T.H. Griffiths (Gaffer), Amy Hicks (Assistant Director) and Clapper Loader Alex Lewis (the lead’s nine-year-old brother).

The 2013 Adelaide Kids Film Festival is an annual film festival ‘for kids by kids’ and runs from Nov 14 – 17 in South Australia’s capital. You’ll find more info an a programme of events at Find out more about the Santa Lie at
